October 12 - 15, 2011The
AFS Annual Meeting
for 2011 will be held in Bloomington, Indiana on the campus of
Indiana University. We are extremely excited about this opportunity and we extend a warm welcome to folklorists from around the country and around the world.
The theme for the conference will be
Peace, War, Folklore...Questions of peace and war, of concord and conflict, are pertinent to any time and any place. By choosing the broad theme of
Peace, War, Folklore, we hope to elicit creative panels that explore the role of folklore and the responsibility of folklorists in striving to understand how human beings interact both in times of calm and in times of turmoil.
There will be an Indiana University Folklore and Ethnomusicology Alumni Gathering on Tuesday, October 11th in 501 N. Park Ave. from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.And there will be pre-conference research and tour opportunities, and pre-conference professional development workshops... Scroll down to see them all!Because

Folklore in Jerusalem Between War and (no) Peace:
The Jerusalem Project 1991 - 2011

Wednesday, October 12, 2011
1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Mathers Museum of World Cultures
(416 N. Indiana Ave.)

Israeli, Palestinian, and U.S. scholars will address the terms of engagement that emerge and diverge in the occupied/disputed/contested city of Jerusalem. In light of the recent human rights violations against Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem neighborhoods, they will discuss boundaries and border crossings between political activism and academic research as well as the prospects and pitfalls of scholarly "dialogue" projects that engage across Israeli and Palestinian lines in the city.

Drawing upon their twenty-year engagement in developing the Jerusalem Project’s ethnographic and pedagogic programs as well as their ongoing involvement in grassroots political movements that are confronting recent events in the city, participants will assess their involvement in designing symmetrical frameworks that work against the asymmetrical power dynamics in Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Project’s processes and products illustrate the limits of this kind of cultural dialogue, especially when it involves not only Israeli and Palestinian partners enmeshed an ongoing relationship as occupier and occupied, but a US partner as well, whose role is fraught with asymmetry and ambiguity.

Participants: Galit Hasan-Rokem, Salim Tamari, Amy Horowitz

Sponsored by: Indiana University Borns Jewish Studies Program, the Center for the Study of the Middle East, and the Themester at the College of Arts and Sciences, Indiana University.

确实如叶老师所说,他们的年会就在学校里举行,那样场地很方便

感觉他们的主题有点怪,怎么从民俗学的角度去看世界的战争与和平呢?
